John Trautmann

A 1986 graduate of Monroe Woodbury High School, John set national age group records in the mile and 1500M when he was 14. A three time individual Sectional and Orange Country cross country winner )1983-84-85) and holds the Section IX Class A cross country record at Bear Mountain as well as the all-time Bear Mountain course record (14:24.6), John holds the Section IX record outdoors in the 1600M (1:09.44) and the 3000M (8:05.8) when he broke Steve Prefontaine’s record in 1986. At Georgetown University, he won the NCAA Division I 5,000M and was part of the Hoyas’ world record-setting distance medley relay team in 1987. John won the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials at 5,000M, but had to bow out in the semifinal heats at the Barcelona Games due to injury. Inducted into the Georgetown Hall of Fame in 2012, he set a Masters mile record for age 45-49 in 2015.  Currently, he is an assistant coach at New York University.
