Lou coached cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field for 27 years at Monroe-Woodbury High School (1971-2001) and coaching at Suffern High School since 2003. He was named the 1996 National Federation Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. Lou coached Olympian John Trautmann and state steeple chase a state cross country champion Brian McKnight. He posted 19 Orange County League and 21 Section IX team champions in cross country.  He crowned seven individual boy champions in Section IX cross country at Bear Mountain.
