The team earned a Section IX title and went on to win the inaugural New York State Class B Championships by besting Riverhead High School by 19 points. Tom King placed fifth and John Smith eighth at the meet in Schenectady and the Mounties placed five runners in the top 25 as Steve Murran finished 18, Mike Tursi finished 22 and Frank Laufersweller was the number 25 runner. Monticello finished behind champion Arlington in 1951, though they repeated as Section IX team champions.

They also placed placed fifth in 1952.
